Here's a picture of a wrecked Mustang to start my FIRST Oppo Rant!

Kinja'd!!!

I like Mustangs. The way they look, sound and drive is awesome. Love the fastbacks of the late 60s. But why is it that whenever I'm on the YouTube and I look up all the videos of Mustangs crashing, they're almost always at a Cars and Coffee event or Mustang shows? Why is it that Mustang drivers always seem to be the ones that do stupid things like this:

http://www.stangtv.com/news/video-mus…

Remember that video from a while back? Well according to this website, apparently Cars and Coffee for Charlotte NC was cancelled as a result of ONE(but probably multiple) Mustang driver(s) that want to show off? You have a Mustang; big deal, we've all seen them and you all just end up crashing them into poles, trees and sometimes people because your egos are bigger than the cars you drive. Who the F*** are you trying to impress?? You only look stupid when you try and fail! I never hear about Corvettes or BMWs or Porsches being stupid; just Mustangs! This was one of the primary reasons that I chose the ST over a '13-14 V6 Mustang, because I hate people that say that the V6 is a woman's Mustang much like it sometimes is for the Porsche Boxster. It's just as much Mustang as any other Mustang. I'm starting to think on a stereotypical level that Mustang drivers are in fact worse than BMW and more specifically M3 owners. If anyone can testify or prove me wrong, go ahead!

Anyone got stories of stupid Mustang incidents and accidents they wanna share?

I end with this video of Mustangs being stupid all over the place! Rant over.

I know someone with a '99 Mustang, he doesn't drive like an idiot, but he does spirited drives fairly often.

You haven't looked hard enough. I know there's a list of drivers doing stupid things for one of the AotDs, and I think there are two Corvettes on there. And even a Gallardo.

Also, the only dude I know with a Mustang is a total tool.

I get it. Stereotypes exist for a reason. But there's idiots in every type of car. I think the reason you see a lot of videos from C&C is because there's a lot of people standing around filming because there's a lot of nice cars in one area. Density.

The biggest reason why people get recorded doing stupid shit at shows is there is an audience to record the stupid shit. And Mustangs are plentiful/always show up to saod events.

It's that you buy an engine wrapped in a car. Bros and d-bags love it for being a cheaply available V8 with lots of room for power. Finesse, class, style be damned. I left a car club on this sie of the state because every meet was a bunch of saleen convertible mustang drivers and AMG and BMW drivers talking shit about everyone else.

They're very popular cars, so there is going to be alot more idiots driving them compared to other cars. I don't think the idiot to normal driver ratio would be too different than other cars. Take Hondas for example, they're perfectly fine cars but it seems like alot of idiots with monster energy stickers and backwards hats drive them when in reality there are normal Honda drivers too.

I think it's an excellent car! I considered finding a used one before the ST along with the Mustang. But I didn't want to be put into a stereotype that annoyed the crap outa me. It was also much more impractical compared to the Mustang or ST.

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah I'm possibly in the market for one, that or a Fiesta ST. I don't need much practicality. Also, driving it around all the time realize that no one really knows which models are which, so there is no stereotype among the general population. The car community will judge you a little though.

So you're saying that they take the risk in totaling a $20k+ muscle car because there's an audience? That might explain a thing or two.... or more.

At the meet I was at last night. We all went to IHOP and when I started talking about Mustangs(not crashes and being stupid) the discussion changed to how many times we've seen or heard a Mustang do something stupid. I've met a few good drivers, but just a few.

Honestly I have made a fool of my self in a V8 RWD car before. For me it was a 08 Charger R/T. I didn't know what i was doing and almost ended up in a ditch just trying burnout from a stop sign. Showing off at shows is stupid, and street racing is worse, but I'm sure we all do things on roads that we shouldn't do. anyone can make a mistake behind the wheel of a car.

And then when they find out who screwed up, they never come back; or if they do, they've got some sad balls showing up again. But Take that C&C in NC for example. What do you think about them cancelling it because of that driver?

First of all, it's certainly not just Mustangs.

With that out of the way, I suspect a lot of it has to do with the popularity and attainability of the Mustang. There are tons of them out there, so it's only natural to see more of them doing stupid things.

I drive a 2013 mustang. I drive "spirited" but not like an asshole. When the conditions call for normal driving I drive normally, which is to say most of the time. Yeah, I have a loud exhaust, but it doesn't mean I "race" or hoon every second I'm behind the wheel. That being said one weekend I had three people egging me on to do burnouts. I went through a drive thru at Wendy's and the staff was trying to get me to do a burnout in the drive thru. I went to C&C and there are people who stand at the exit to video every car leaving. Their whole goal is to get people to do burnouts and drive wrecklessly as they leave for the good of a 4 second video. In all of the aforementioned instances I deck inclined and just drove normally. I get it. People want to see bad ass cars do bad ass things. I'm just to going to do it when it jeopardizes the safety of myself, my car, or anyone else.

I don't doubt that at all. I know I've made my share of mistakes in the one year I've been driving. Last summer, I accidentally cut off a red C4 Corvette while trying to merge on the freeway. It was either that or get off the freeway and try to get on again. Luckily nothing happened and all was fine for the rest of my hour trip(I did speed up to get away from them because I was embarrassed as hell.).

I actually don't mind street racing if I'm honest. If it's done at night or the early morning when no ones around, whatever. But if it's during the day(I've seen it and it ended with two cars, one of which was a mustang, pulled over) then it's just stupid.

You sir, deserve an award for being a good(read as responsible) Mustang driver. I respect you. I love the sound of V8 Mustangs and I don't think it means that you love to hoon about all the time. What you have typed should be the message to all Mustang drivers IMO.

don't do stupid things or you'll ruin C&C for an entire city; then you'll have to pack up your things and get outta town!

I don't think it's just Mustangs. It just seems to be the majority of incidents and stupid crashes are done by Mustangs at these venues and events. I bet someone has tried to do a burnout in a regular Fiesta and crashed into a tree(if that's even possible).

And they definitely are easy to get that's for sure!

Kinja'd!!! GTCL > K-Roll-PorscheTamer

There are plenty of people who own mustangs who drive responsibly. Could you imagine what it is like to drive a Ferrari, Lamborghini, or other such car? People always pestering you to see what the car can do, or worse drive wrecklessly just to get a good look at the car. That would actually kind of suck.

One more thing. Every day I call my wife when I leave work to come home, as we live a half hour away from work. She tells me "drive safe." I say "well of course, I don't want to hurt the car."

I've street raced a few times and it was never organized. My town never had like "meet behind the warehouse on Vaugh at 2:30am we'll settle this on the 1/4 mile". It was always driving on a four lane "I pass you, if you pass me back it's on buddy!" and you just go till some one backs off or can't keep up. I got caught once and the was the end for me. The good thing was when got caught it had just started so we were only doing like 40 but in a 25. So yeah my definition of street racing is the bad kind.

When I got my Astra, people were asking me to see what it could do.... I never did because it's an Astra. The two times I did to test myself in the winter, the tranny breaks and I crash into a wall of snow head-on understeering around a corner.

When the ST comes, I may consider 0-60 pulls and Auto-X but that's it...I think.

My mom does the same thing every weekend when I go to work. She calls me to tell me to be safe, and I tell her the exact same thing you say to your wife. :P

Man, just gotta suck it up and be like "I bought this car for me, because I like it, fuck all whoever else owns one, they're not me"

Trust me I've happily owned a 350z for the past seven and a half years. Yes it was the official car of aspirational ricers for a while, and yes it's "coolness" a few years ago results in it being ultra uncool amongst the super hip oppo crowd, but fuck em. It works good. It covers all the bases I want covered. And I'm me. And I'm not those assholes.

If people give me shit for having a V6 Mustang, I just ask them how much they actually drive their car. My car might be slow as hell in a straight line but I actually drive my car and have passed plenty of cars on track with double the horsepower and quadruple the price tag. Haters gonna hate.
